Maintaining a hotel (or indeed any property, but particularly it seems hotels) is a bit like painting the Forth Bridge – the job is never done. Although I note we will now have to come up with a replacement turn of phrase to convey the idea of the perpetually unfinished task, as the latest re-painting of the landmark in question involved a paint technology which could last between 25 and 40 years without the need for a serious touch up. Is nothing sacred? From henceforth, in these parts at least, we will resort to exclaiming “it’s like re-painting the Fat Lamb” when the lawn needs mowing again or the guinea pig needs cleaning out (insert pertinent example here).
Anyway, the good news is that for the time being at least the Fat Lamb bedrooms are looking extremely handsome indeed, having received a long overdue dose of TLC. The amount of work which has gone into this doesn’t bear thinking about, so it is extremely gratifying to note that the response from guests who have been lucky enough to stay in them since has been overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to everyone who helped out with scraping and sanding and fitting and painting and pasting (you know who you are), and to those who threw a few kind words our way.
