Car Club Tour

Classic Car Tours

In addition to managing The Fat Lamb Hotel for almost forty years, I have more recently been able to indulge my other great passion – owning, maintaining and driving Classic Cars. I am fortunate to be currently running two classic cars – an Austin Healey 3000 and a Mk2 Jaguar – and use these as my regular transport whenever I can.

Fat Lamb Car Clubs

Running Classic Cars is a lot more fun than running hotels, and I have convinced my hard working staff that organising tours, and occasionally accompanying groups of Classic Car enthusiasts along the wonderful fell top roads we have around here, is actually work. We’re proud to have acted as official stops for large events such as the Rally of the Tests, the Roof of England Rally and the Devils Own, and to have hosted many and varied groups of enthusiastic owners over the years. Our car park has been graced with everything from blower Bentley’s to Lotus 7s, model T Ford’s to modern Italian exotica, Vintage Sunbeam Motorcycles and even an assembly of touring historic tractors – that’s serious off-roading.

Being supposedly semi-retired for these past few years I have been able to concentrate on developing this side of the business, and by the end of this year we will have hosted visits from, amongst others, Lotus Club of Luxembourg, Austin Healey Club , two visits from the Vintage Sports Car Club, Peugeot Enthusiasts, Triumph Sports Six, Aston Martin Owners Club, MR2 Club, Claymills Car Club, three MG Owners clubs, two Stag Owners clubs, two MX5’s, and my own Sporting Bears Northern Gambol.

We provide a complete service from planning the route to your specific requirements, drawing up comprehensive route notes, providing tulip books if requested, supplying customised rally plates, booking coffee / lunch / tea stops as required, arranging visits to motor / railway museums, local attractions and other places of interest– even allowing access to well-equipped workshop facilities to keep everyone moving. I also accompany groups out on the tour (if allowed) and provide a photographic record of the trip showing the cars on the move as well as the usual car park line ups at the various stopping places.

On behalf of the Lune and Wyre MG Motor Club a big thankyou to all who made sure our visit to the Fat Lamb yesterday was memorable one.  The service and food was excellent. Thankyou again and no doubt will visit again on some future MG run.

Another most enjoyable stay at the Fat Lamb. As a wheelchair dependent person it is good to be able to stay at a venue that has the necessary facilities and access. The food was, as ever, first class and with staff always willing to assist if they can one is always well looked after. The location between Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh is an ideal location close to the Howgills and within easy range of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales ensure plenty of natural countryside and geographical features along with plenty of places of interest as well. Here's to our next visit but meanwhile the memories live on.

Just to say thank you for a really good lunch and a warm welcome. The food was great and the staff did a marvellous job looking after us all.

We look forward to doing a re-run at some point in the future.

As Guest Club members, we take advantage of the special offers, which are exceptionally good value. We had a lovely two night break in The Fat Lamb at the end of June and as always everything was faultless. Our room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view over the hills. Really good shower in the bathroom! The food is always delicious, with plenty of choice on the menu. I wouldn`t hesitate to recommend this great Inn and it`s lovely staff.

Booked this last minute for one night. We've stayed before, but not for a long while. It was just as good as we remembered. Food was good, room comfortable and clean and staff helpful. We'll not leave it as long to return next time!

My wife Anne and I have stayed at the Fat Lamb on a number of occasions over the last few years and have enjoyed every visit. The surroundings are stunning and oh so quiet. A fantastic location to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The staff are so friendly, the rooms comfortable and the food delicious !! We will be back. Thanks again to all at the Fat Lamb.

2nd November 2016

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in October 2016. The bar food was very good and we sat close to the open fire - a nice treat on an autumnal evening. The porridge for breakfast was one of the best I have tried - even in Scotland. Our room overlooking the car park was comfortable but there was a draught from the hopper window when closed. We arrived in our classic sports car and the 10% discount on our bill was a welcome surprise. We will visit again.

We booked last minute to visit the Fat Lamb with our two children. We all absolutely loved it. The room was cosy. The food for the evening meal was enjoyed by all of us and the service was great. Breakfast was also really nice. Our boys particularly liked having adventures in the garden and nature reserve. Such a great location for families. We will visit again.

We needed somewhere to break a journey and The Fat Lamb was ideally situated, not least because of its proximity to the M6 (around 15 miles from Tebay). Booking was easy and we were contacted to confirm the details of the booking, which included £20 each for dinner and were advised that it would be the weekend of the Appleby Fair. We were welcomed on arrival, invited to book for dinner as it was likely to be busy and shown our room which was comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised to find the inn had a small wildlife area and spent an enjoyable hour exploring it and observing geese and swans with their young. Despite having been advised that the dinner menu would be restricted because of the Fair, there was a good choice of à la carte and other meals, using mainly locally-sourced ingredients. The meal (taken in the bar) was promptly served and delicious, while the bar area had seating to allow us to sit and read after eating. Breakfast the next morning was well organised, with tables allocated by room number and the service efficient. We intend to stay again, but will bring boots for the wildlife area!

The fat lamb recently catered for our group of 30+ family members on the bank holiday weekend with ease, the food was delicious and the staff and service were top class. Lovely scenic location with plenty of parking, I would highly recommend this as a venue.

Have just taken a party from my local U3A walk group for a three night break. It was universally agreed that the Fat Lamb was an excellent venue for our peregrinations. The setting is superb - even the rain takes on a different dimension - the walking potential endless and it is very, very hard to find anything to fault with the ambience and service within the pub. We will be looking to return, I am sure.

Called in here again for lunch, on the way back from Cumbria. Very good steak pie and good value for money. Served in good time by friendly competent staff. Very good beers, and coffee after lunch. Couldn't fault either the welcome or the meal - both excellent. The views from this pub are amazing, and they have their own Nature Reserve.
