Wildlife and Photography

Steam in WinterWildlife Photography and Birdwatching are two pastimes very close to my heart, and the opportunity to create my very own Nature Reserve to share with others, was one that was too good to miss when adjoining land became available many years ago. Today the reserve offers quiet relaxation to all, and for those prepared to rise early the opportunity of seeing a wide variety of animal and bird species – and for the lucky few a glimpse of our very special occasional visitors, the otters. Best time to see something special is always early in the morning - as close to sunrise as you can manage - then find a good spot and just sit and wait quietly for the wildlife to come to you.

Elsewhere, the magnificent landscape, the Settle Carlisle railway and everyday scenes from rural life present the keen photographer with plenty of opportunity to capture that special image. Winter is especially scenic after a good snowfall or frost.

RocksI have taken wildlife groups out in the past and am more than happy to do so again, although I don't claim to be an expert - more enthusiastic amateur. As regards the photography then rank amateur would be a more fitting description. I really don't know my f-stops from my apertures - but I do have a very expensive camera that does, and I seem to have found a way of getting myself into the right place at the right time and occasionally getting some decent results. We have hosted photography groups in the past, and there are local courses available for both still and video courses that we would be delighted to put you in touch with.
