The Fat Lamb
Where to go, what to see
A glance at the location map below shows that we are situated virtually in the middle of Englands beautiful North Country - well placed to visit both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, and handy for the M6 linking Scotland to the south of England. The Lake District boasts spectacular scenery, water sports and many visitor attractions. The Yorkshire Dales has a softer landscape, gentler on the eye but just as appealing, and is home to many quaint villages and hamlets - made famous as Herriott Country by the vet and author James Herriot. Also within easy striking distance is Hadrians Wall with its museums at Birdoswald, Vindolanda and Housesteads; the valleys of Teesdale and Weardale, both areas of outstanding natural beauty; and closer to home, our own Howgill fells - ideal for walking and pony trekking. The area is steeped in history - castles both ruined and inhabited, stately homes and gardens can all be found a short journey away.
